Happy Birthday, Darnell!

Happy Birthday  to my dear friend and pen pal, Darnell! If you haven't joined her blog, you've gotta jump in and join us! She's a blast, and I promise you there will be a smile on your face and a chuckle in your gut before you finish the day's blog post. She has a wonderful hampster, named Hammy, who creates right along with her and never fails to give his opinion. Darnell also has a way with acronyms, and soon your vocabulary will increase with a new list of words you'd never thought of before.

This card was created using the Split-Negative technique. I stamped the butterfly twice, once on black paper and the other on white. The butterfly on the black paper was heat embossed with white, and the one on the white was embossed with black. After cutting the butterfly in half (OUCH!), I paired up the two pieces and attached it to a piece of paper before adhering to the red background.

This wasn't an easy technique for me. I found it rather difficult to cut my image in half without squinting first. I even yelled a big OUCH while cutting. After I got through that trauma, I was able to quickly get my card together.

The paper is from Gina K Designs Berries and Vines patterned paper pack, and the butterfly is from the Gina K Designs Bold and Beautiful stamp set.

Thank you for stopping by today! I am so happy you can join in with Darnell's Birthday Celebration!

  1. I've always loved the look of this technique but was afraid it would be too fiddly to get nicely straight and lined up and all that. I absolutely love it in black and white WITH RED That's such a fun combo. Love it! And big to-do to Darnell as well!

  4. This is such a striking card, and I am so glad you explained how you did it, because there is no way I would have figured it out. I am going to try it sometime, and if it works well enough to blog about, I'll be sure to send all the credit your way for the inspiration.

  6. Yes, hello, my name is Zedith and I'm from the COTHTOBI (Committee On The Humane Treatment of Butterfly Images). We have examined your card from every angle and declare it "passed" for the following reasons: a) you embossed the image which will protect and preserve it throughout the centuries; and b) you correctly yelled "OUCH" while preforming the dissection, according to Rule 12Eb(1)17.(iv). Thank you for submitting your work for inspection.

Okay, seriously, Sharon, my little friend, thank you so much for taking part in my surprise linky party and making me this scrumptious b/w/r card for my birthday! I love it to pieces (no pun intended!) and I'm putting this in my folder to CASE someday! What a great technique!

I hope you had a great 4th and are enjoying the weekend!! Mwah! Darnell
